"Ma" lights up our home. The walls seem to have absorbed her demeanour and moods. When she is happy, the paint seems brighter, when she is disappointed, darker....... Quietly, she has influenced who we have grown up to become. It takes much mental unravelling to recognise the same values and beliefs that she held dear have impacted our lives and moulded our dreams and expectations of ourselves. To us, Ma is someone who is always "there". To her, we are her life, the priviledged ones which she has chosen to love with all of her being and impart her wisdom.
My most heart-warming moments were watching my father adoring my son. Their time together was not long enough for me. But every now and then while watching my son, I see my father in a gesture, an expression, a trait....
Childhood holds my favourite memories of adventures, friendships and fun times. I wish I had not been so earger then to grow up. As an adult, every now and then, when lost and unsure, I reconnect with that child I once was; always an interesting experience which gives me a fresh prespective on things.
People have always fasinated me. As a lawyer, I have the chance to meet so many. I enjoy listening to their stories which give me insights into their lives, dreams, values and the individuals that they are that make them so unique. And all the while I watch too their changing expressions and gestures which themselves speak volumes. My observations mould much of my art. It has come as no surprise to me that my portraits are my most enjoyable works.
I have been fortunate to always have had someone to share my life and significant moments with; from my parents and siblings, I went to my husband and then my son joined us. Life should not be journeyed alone. It is heart-warming to be able to share moments with someone albeit one's parents, friends, colleagues, partners, pets.....
