The best role models for a little girl are the women in her life. An older person is best placed to teach her how to care for her siblings, spouse, children and most importantly, herself. The child will one day have her own family and household to take care off, light up and love. And so she will teach as she has been taught.
Fathers look fierce and harsh. Often they are absent from much of their children's childhood. But they toil, worry and plan tirelessly to provide for their loved ones. Their motivation is a deep love. They love quietly and passionately.
As India develops and progresses, there is a concerted effort to improve the lives of the poor so that they are not left behind. Building affordable housing for the slum dwellers is one such effort. It's sheer feat interested me. After having learned the new real estate laws of India and funding prospects for the poor, I began to wonder if the poor would be better off in all the ways that I thought. They would have mortgages now and the burden of repaying enormous debts. Fixed income jobs and long distances to be travelled to reach them will replace neighbourhood ones and entrepeneurship. Where my paintings started off dark, for I believed slum dwellers must be miserable and waiting to be rescued, I was no longer so sure as one brush stroke followed another. On their faces, where i expected expressions of worry and sacrifice, I saw love, adoration, strength and pride. Pehaps its all a matter of perception. And thus there lies within each human the power to be happy or not, and to love or not regardless of how much s/he owns.

The unrestrained love a child showers on a pet merely mirrors the same unrestrianed love you have showered on your child. Your child is just practising. One day, when all grown up, this is the love that your child will shower on his or her children, and then you in your old age. What goes around comes around. If you love your child, s/he will reciprocate.
